Geita council approves 78.8bn/- budget for 2026/27

GEITA: THE Geita Municipal Council has approved a proposed budget of 78.8bn/- for the 2026/27 financial year, representing an 8.3 per cent increase from more than 72bn/- allocated in the 2025/26 financial year.
Director of Geita Municipal Council, Mr Yefred Myenzi revealed that during a recent meeting to discuss draft proposals and plans for the 2026/27 budget.
Mr Myenzi said the budget focuses on completing strategic projects while improving infrastructure and social services to meet the development needs of the municipality.
He added that, alongside the budget increase, the council has strengthened efforts to curb loopholes in internal revenue collection to ensure that allocated funds achieve their intended objectives.
Head of the Planning Department Ndalo Samson, said the budget complies with budgetary laws as well as the 2025–2030 election manifesto of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
He explained that in the 2026/27 financial year, 23.14bn/-, equivalent to 30.6 per cent, will come from internal revenue, while central government subsidies will amount to 39.6bn/-.
Mayor of Geita Municipality, Leonard Bugomola, emphasised that the approved budget incorporates views from various stakeholders, calling on all councillors to work together to achieve the planned objectives.
Geita District Administrative Secretary, Ms Lucy Beda, urged the council to prioritise ongoing projects in the upcoming fiscal year, including unfinished classroom buildings initiated by citizens.
