SAMIA@ 100 DAYS: 41,500 new jobs in offing, thousands recruited
DODOMA: A total of 8,416 public servants out of the 12,000 newly recruited health and education employees have reported to their respective duty stations, as the government plans to employ an additional 41,500 workers to fill various posts in the public service.
Presenting a 100-day performance report to reporters in Dodoma yesterday, the Minister of State, President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr Ridhiwani Kikwete, said that among those who have reported, 3,694 are from the education sector while 4,722 are from the health area.
Mr Kikwete said that 735 employees who reported before the payroll deadline have already been included in the government payroll and have received their January 2026 salaries.
“Additionally, 956 education officers and 305 health workers are currently in the processing stage. All employees will be included in the government payroll as they report to their workstations,” he added.
He told reporters that his office facilitated the recruitment exercise in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s pledge that within 100 days of assuming office, her government would create 12,000 employment opportunities.
Apart from job creation, the Head of State also promised to establish an accountability system through, which leaders would engage directly with citizens via digital platforms within the same period.
Subsequently, the Minister said, the President approved 12,000 employment positions, including 5,000 for the health sector and 7,000 for science and mathematics teachers.
After receiving applications, the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) coordinated recruitment interviews conducted across all regions of Tanzania, with designated centres in Unguja and Pemba.
On December 13–14, 2025, he said, PSRS conducted aptitude tests digitally, with results released on the same days. From December 15–23, 2025, oral interviews were conducted for candidates who passed the aptitude tests, while from January 11–20, 2026, PSRS assigned duty stations to all successful candidates.
However, the Minister reminded newly employed staff to report to their duty stations within 14 days of receiving their appointment letters, warning that failure to do so would result in their positions being reassigned to other candidates in the database.
“I also direct employers that after receiving newly recruited staff, they must submit their employment details to the Editor-in-Chief of the Government Gazette, who is the Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, for publication,” he said.
Regarding new employment opportunities, Mr Kikwete said the President has approved the recruitment of 41,500 public servants across various cadres, including health workers, teachers, agriculture and fisheries officers, engineers, firefighters and rescue officers, immigration officers, prison officers, police officers, and other professionals.
“I therefore urge all qualified Tanzanians to continue applying for vacancies as they are announced by the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat,” he said.
Beyond employment, Mr Kikwete said that within the first 100 days of President Samia’s current term, his office has enhanced the e-Mrejesho System—an electronic platform for submitting, receiving, and addressing complaints, suggestions, inquiries, opinions, and commendations from citizens regarding government services
