Tanzania injects 25bn/- to connect power to 218 hamlets in Njombe

NJOMBE: THE Rural Energy Agency (REA) has begun the implementation of providing electricity to 218 hamlets in Njombe Region, where the project worth 24.9bn/-.
The move is part of the plan to provide electricity to all remaining hamlets in the country that still do not have electricity service by 2030.
This was stated today by Frank Mugogo on behalf of the Director General of REA, Eng Hassan Saidy during a brief ceremony to introduce the contractor from Central Electricals International Ltd in the HEP 2B Project which is going to implement in 218 hamlets in Njombe Region.

“The total number of all sub-districts in Njombe region is 1,833, and sub-districts with electricity are 1,276. Similarly, sub-districts that do not have electricity are 557. Therefore, this project is going to provide electricity to 218 sub-districts in this region, and there will remain 339 sub-districts that do not have electricity, and they will be completed,” said Mugogo
He added that the cost of connecting the electricity is only 27,000/- and urged the citizens of the region to take advantage of the opportunity to connect electricity at an affordable cost enabled by the Sixth Phase Government led by President Samia.
Speaking immediately after receiving the report on the implementation of the projects in Njombe region, the Acting Regional Administrative Secretary, Lewisi Mnyambwa thanked President Samia for bringing more than 24 billion shillings to provide electricity to the sub-districts of Njombe region.

“The government through REA has done a great job. We insist that these projects be completed within the scheduled time and we will continue to manage them properly so that the contractor can carry out his duties without any challenges throughout the project implementation period,” said Mnyambwa.
In addition, he has advised the citizens surrounding the project area to cooperate with the contractor and has been asked to give priority to employment for locals to carry out various activities in the project so that the economy of the people increases and they benefit from the presence of the projects in their environment.
For his part, the Director of Projects from Central Electricals International Ltd, Zameer Meghji, has thanked the government through REA for being given the opportunity to implement the major project.
He said they will ensure that the projects are completed on time, they will cooperate with the citizens and give priority to employment for locals so that the projects bring productivity to the citizens and the country as a whole.
