REA spends 73.8bn/- to extend power to 527 villages in Tanga    

TANGA: THE Tanzanian government is implementing a 73.8bn/- project to extend electricity to 527 sub-villages in Tanga Region.

The Rural Energy Agency (REA), Director General Eng Hassan Saidy revealed this in the Tanga region when introducing the contractors awarded the project, Giza Cable Industries and Energy Service Limited at the Regional Commissioner’s Office.

Explaining to the Tanga Regional Commissioner on the various duties to be carried by the contractors in the region, he said that they have been given specific instructions, including the requirement to deploy working teams in almost every district to ensure effective and timely implementation of the project.

“It would not be easy for the contractors to operate simultaneously in all 527 sub-villages without the working teams, it would be nice and more effective for each district to have an active working team at all times, under the supervision of REA and TANESCO,” he said.

Moreover, he said that the contractors have also been strictly instructed not to offload electricity poles or other materials in villages or areas not included in the project as well as to avoid the use of abusive language and any acts of corruption during project implementation.

Elaborating, the Engineer said that Giza Cable Industries will implement the project in Lushoto, Korogwe, and Mkinga districts, where electricity will be extended to 380 sub-villages, while the Energy Service Limited will work in Handeni, Muheza, Kilind,i and Pangani districts, connecting 147 sub-villages to the national grid.
