Makete Hospital sees increase in number of patients by 43 percent

MAKETE: MAKETE District Hospital in Njombe Region has increased its patient numbers from 11,485 in 2021 to 26,317 in 2025, representing a 43% rise.

This growth is largely attributed to infrastructure improvements and the purchase of medical equipment made by the Government at the hospital.

These details were provided today, January 8, 2025, by the Medical Officer-in-Charge of Makete District Hospital, Dr. Amanda Molel, during a briefing on the progress of various hospital projects to the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) in the health sector, Dr. Jafar Seif. The Deputy Minister visited the hospital to inspect service delivery and project implementation.

Speaking to hospital staff, Deputy Minister Dr. Seif commended them for their continued provision of quality services and urged them to serve patients with care and dedication to ensure that the improved infrastructure translates into high-quality healthcare.

“The Government has already upgraded the infrastructure, and we are still supplying medicines and medical equipment. What remains is for us as health workers to serve our clients with good communication, care, and dedication. Our professional ethics guide us; we should not add stress to patients but instead be of help to them,” said Dr. Seif.

Makete District Hospital is among the older district hospitals that received development funds between 2020 and 2025 for infrastructure upgrades, medical equipment procurement, and recruitment of staff in various health cadres. Through these funds, the hospital has upgraded the emergency department, constructed fencing around the hospital premises, and built new facilities including surgical theaters, laboratories, laundry services, a waste incinerator, and carried out major renovations of the outpatient department (OPD complex).
