Tanzania pledges to continue taking care of retired leaders

ZANZIBAR:THE Tanzanian  government has pledged to continue taking care of retired national leaders and their spouses noting that it is a constitutional mandate.

The Minister in the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance Ridhiwani Kikwete made the reaffirmation when conveying President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s greetings to retired national leaders and their spouses.

Delivered the President’s message during courtesy visits made at different times on Thursday to former leaders in Zanzibar, Mr Ridhiwani visited the former President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Ali Mohammed Shein, at his residence in Kibele, South Unguja Region and the former Vice President of Tanzania, Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal, at his home in Mbweni, Magharibi B District, Urban West Region.

The minister also visited Mrs Sitti Mwinyi, the spouse of the late former President of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, at her home in Nyamanzi, Magharibi B District.

During their discussions, the Minister noted that his ministry is mandated to take care of all retired national leaders and that they will do just that as it is in accordance with the law and regulations of the country.

In her remarks, Mrs Sitti Mwinyi expressed her gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued concern and support for the spouses of retired leaders, and appealed for the spirit of care and compassion to be sustained.
