PM orders termination of TEMESA employees involved in 2.5bn loss
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Prime Minister, Mwigulu Nchemba, has ordered the immediate dismissal of employees of the Tanzania Electrical, Mechanical and Services Agency (TEMESA) who were involved in the embezzlement of 2.5bn/-.
The Prime Minister issued the directive earlier today, December 24, 2025, during an inspection visit at the Kivukoni–Kigamboni ferry service in Dar es Salaam noting that the government will not tolerate abuse of authority or misuse of public funds.
According to the Premier, embezzlements have contributed to the decline in ferry services and the escalation of unnecessary costs for the government.

“There has been abuse of authority and misuse of funds and this cannot be tolerated. If people cannot correct themselves, they must be corrected,” the PM said.
The Prime Minister noted that currently, maintenance work has stalled on some ferries due to debts amounting to approximately 800m/-, while financial reports indicate that some TEMESA employees were involved in the embezzlement of 2.5bn/-.
Additionally, he said that if strict measures are not taken, the government could end up spending huge amounts of money repairing aging ferries instead of purchasing new ones, a situation that would increase the burden on citizens and negatively affect service delivery.
Moreover, he said that the government will continue to take legal action against all individuals found to be involved in embezzlement, and called for accountability, transparency, and strong management of public resources across all government institutions.
