Govt intensifies security ahead of festivals

DODOMA: AS Tanzanians prepare to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, police in Dodoma, in collaboration with other security organs, have stepped up efforts to ensure peace and harmony across the capital city during the festive season prevail.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dodoma Regional Police Commander (RPC) ACP Galus Hyera said security has been stepped up in all areas, including places of worship, entertainment venues and public areas that attract large crowds.

“The general public is advised to adhere to the laws of the land and avoid dangerous driving and the use of unpermitted explosives,” the regional police chief emphasised.

He added that the Police Force will not hesitate to take action against anyone who violates the law, while urging citizens to refrain from mob justice and instead report incidents to relevant security organs.

Meanwhile, police are holding a resident of Nzuguni A in Dodoma, Erick Ndambo (29), in connection with the alleged killing of Evance Mtui (29), a resident of Makulu– Oysterbay in the city.

According to the RPC, the incident occurred on December 16 this year along the busy Majengo Street, where Mtui was reportedly attacked with a sharp object to the left side of his chest.

Following the incident, police launched a search for the suspect, which later led to his arrest.

“Investigations are ongoing, and once completed, the suspect will be formally charged,” ACP Hyera said.
