Five bodaboda riders perish in road carnage

DODOMA: FIVE motorcycle taxi riders (bodaboda) were killed and one injured on Thursday night at Makulu area in Dodoma when a lorry lost control and crashed into a group of riders parked along the roadside.
The incident occurred on the road connecting the University of Dodoma to the City Centre.
According to an initial police report, the accident occurred when the lorry driver lost control due to a brake failure, causing the vehicle to crash into the group of motorcycle riders before hitting the roadside wall.
Police in Dodoma are searching for the driver of the vehicle with registration number T 824 EKS, who disappeared immediately after the grisly crash.
According to the Dodoma Regional Police Commander, ACP Galus Hyera, one person identified by one name, Alphonse, was injured and rushed to hospital.
RPC mentioned the five bodaboda riders killed in the accident as Ishad Ramadhani Jaa (25), Hafidhi Ismail Selemani (30), Adam Juma (27), Ijumaa Ndafu (27) and Michael Mkande (26).
“This area is particularly sensitive and prone to accidents due to the sharp corner. It is also a busy spot, as many people run their businesses along the roadside,” ACP Hyera noted.
He urged drivers to exercise caution when navigating such areas and emphasized the importance of maintaining their vehicles to prevent accidents.
Earlier, Dodoma District Commissioner Jabir Shekimweri, who visited the accident site, confirmed the incident and highlighted that the area is particularly hazardous.
He noted that “this is not the first time such accidents have occurred in the same location.”

Very sad to hear loss of life. But these accidents will continue as far as we dont change. Here in Tanga, bodaboda park their bikes wherever they want at times in middle of major roads. Traffic police are least concerned. Their textbook tells them only byses and lorries are their concern.
