New 689.5m/- school in Mlandizi to spur inclusive education

KIBAHA: THE government continues to create a friendly learning environment for children with disabilities, ensuring they access quality education, acquire necessary skills and contribute productively to their own lives and to the nation.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government – RALG), responsible for Education, Mr Reuben Kwagilwa, made the remarks recently after inspecting the ongoing construction of a new school in Mlandizi Division, Kibaha District Council, Coast Region.

“Our government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan is fully committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of background or status, access education without barriers. This project is a clear example of the policy in action,” he said.

The deputy minister also urged district officials to ensure that all children of school-starting age are registered and ready to begin Standard One in January next year.

“The government has made significant efforts to ensure all students begin classes on time in January. It is now the responsibility of parents to support these efforts by ensuring their children do not miss their right to education,” he added.

Kibaha District Executive Director (DED) Ms Regina Bieda informed the deputy minister that the council received 506.5m/- from the BOOST Programme and an additional 183m/- from the government for the construction of the new school.

“This school will provide inclusive education. We have built a dormitory to accommodate students with disabilities. Currently, the division has only one school for children with special needs and it cannot accommodate all the children. All students from that school will be relocated here. We expect the new school to enroll 420 students when it starts operating on January 6, 2026,” she said.

The project is being implemented by Msoro Construction Company, and construction has so far reached 35 per cent completion.
