Call for Tanzanians to avoid issues that can trigger chaos

DAR ES SALAAM: DAR E SALAAM Special Police Zone Commander, Jumanne Muliro, has urged Tanzanian citizens countrywide not to support any form of violence as it comes with a cost.

Addressing media outlets today, December 5, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Mr Muliro said Tanzania belongs to its people and that it will be wise to avoid anything that can trigger chaos.

Such things should not be attempted.

“There are things one can try, but there are things one must never attempt, because if something happens, both you and I will find ourselves in a difficult situation,” he said.

Elaborating, he said that the Police recognize and understand that the government belongs to the people and serves the people but for peace to be maintained, it is vital for people to obey the law.

“Even with freedom of expression, the law also reminds us that there are limits,” he said.

He added, “The main duty of the Police is to ensure people live in an environment free of fear and that citizens are protected. I agree with what the Editors have reminded us to ensure your safety so that you are able to obtain information properly. We believe that had you received information accurately, we would have avoided the tension that arose.”

Moreover, he said that the police will continue to uphold the law to ensure Dar es Salaam remains safe and at the same time asked journalists to carry out their duties without fear.
