TZ–Türkiye partnership boosts specialised healthcare services

DODOMA: TANZANIA and Türkiye continue to strengthen their cooperation in the health sector, with growing emphasis on professional training, medical camps and specialised healthcare services.

This collaboration has been demonstrated as the Embassy of Tanzania in Türkiye coordinates a special medical screening and treatment camp scheduled to take place at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) in Dodoma this month.

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Mr Iddi Seif Bakari on Saturday saw off a team of medical experts from Türkiye’s Life-Giving Hands Association (Can Veren Eller) at Istanbul International Airport as they departed for Tanzania to begin the week-long medical camp.

The delegation comprises ten specialists, including doctors and nurses, who are travelling with medical equipment to support patient care and deliver advanced superspecialty training to practitioners at BMH.

The training will focus on Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) services, with special emphasis on temporal bone surgery, which will be performed at BMH for the first time.

The Can Veren Eller Association, which has vast experience in organising medical missions, has previously conducted similar medical camps in Zanzibar, in February last year and April this year. Its latest mission to BMH marks another milestone in the growing partnership with Tanzania to strengthen healthcare delivery.

Amb Bakari commended the association for selecting Tanzania as a key destination for medical services and humanitarian support. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with various stakeholders to unlock opportunities that advance the country’s health sector, noting Türkiye’s strong track record in healthcare development.

Amb Bakari also welcomed the humanitarian organisation Doctors Worldwide Türkiye to deepen its partnership with Tanzanian hospitals in expanding healthcare services.

The collaboration aims to support the construction of health facilities and organise medical camps that will enable more citizens to access quality healthcare while driving investment in the health sector.

He extended this invitation on Friday during a visit to the organisation’s headquarters in Istanbul, where he held discussions with its Chairman, Professor Ahmet Salduz.

Their talks focused on strengthening cooperation in health, particularly in Tanzania’s priority areas, to ensure the partnership delivers greater benefits for communities.

Doctors Worldwide Türkiye already operates a Health Centre in Kongwa District, Dodoma, inaugurated in July this year, which continues to provide services to the local population. Amb Bakari expressed appreciation for the organisation’s 25-plus years of experience, its operations in more than 83 countries and its continued contribution to improving healthcare services in Tanzania.
