CBE strengthens academic ranking

DAR ES SALAAM: THE College of Business Education (CBE) has retained its position as the eighth-ranked higher learning institution out of 47 nationwide for the second consecutive year, reflecting continued excellence in education and research and the management’s sustained drive for higher performance.
The ranking was carried by AD Scientific Index, a global ranking and analysis system, quantifying the effort to increase quality of education offered by the college in recently years.
The CBE’s Governing Board Chairperson, Prof Zacharia Mganilwa, told the Minister for Industry and Trade on Tuesday that the achievement was described as evidence that the institution’s strategies to enhance education are producing positive results.
“This is a commendable achievement,” the Chairperson said, “reflecting that our strategies to improve education are beginning to deliver positive results, strengthening our position as a model institution in business education.”
The Chairperson said the college continually updates its curriculum to keep pace with economic and technological changes and to better meet labour-market needs.

The college, owned by the government under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, steadily works toward achieving its goal of becoming the fifth-ranked institution in the country.
Additionally, Prof Mganilwa said the college has distinguished itself through its strong focus on research aimed at addressing societal challenges and supporting industrial and commercial development.
“We have established a system that allocates internal resources to fund various studies undertaken by our lecturers and researchers,” he said.
Statistics show that over the past five years CBE researchers have completed 418 research projects and published 447 papers in both national and international journals. This has significantly enhanced the college’s research output and contributed to the government’s efforts in addressing policy, economic and social challenges.
Minister of Industry and Trade Judith Kapinga said the institution must take a larger role in shaping the country’s industrial future by moving beyond classroom training to become a national engine for knowledge generation, policy analysis and technological innovation.
“CBE is not just a training institution, it is a knowledge factory producing experts in business, finance, marketing, ICT and other key sectors for the country,” Ms Kapinga said.
She said the college should also serve as a platform for national and international dialogue, bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs, students and stakeholders while underscoring the importance of regular curriculum reforms to prepare students with modern business environment.
She also visited the college’s new building which is currently under construction, where the first phase is already over 80 per cent complete and is expected to be officially finished by next February.
“I commend you for the strong project management, particularly on this one, which is progressing well ahead of schedule. This is exactly what we expect, timely completion so that we can move efficiently to other projects,” she said.
The CBE Rector, Prof Edda Tandi, said they aim to become one of the top five business colleges, driven by improved curriculum that goes with practical learning.
She explained that since 2022, the college has developed a work-integrated learning programme for bachelor students, which received accreditation this year. The model divides student time between classroom study and workplace training and has greatly motivated learners.
