Mtwara auctions 147,410 tonnes of cashew to set a new selling record

MTWARA: MTWARA Region has set a new record in cashew sales after selling a total of 147,410 tonnes through six auctions held so far under the warehouse receipt system and the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX).
Speaking during the third cashew nut auction by MAMCU LTD held in Masasi District Council, Acting Assistant Regional Commissioner of Mtwara, Robert Nsunza, said the achievement reflects the strength of cooperative efforts and the efficiency of modern sales systems.
The major cooperative unions, TANECU and MAMCU, have continued to show significant progress in this season’s auctions. Together, they have brought a total of 147,410 tons of cashew nuts to the market through the six auctions held so far.

Nsunza explained that in MAMCU’s three auctions, a total of 82,000 tons were sold, while TANECU sold 65,000 tons in three auctions conducted under the digital TMX system.
These achievements demonstrate the ongoing growth in production and improvement of cashew nut markets in Mtwara Region.
