TRA Kagera surpasses three-month revenue target

BUKOBA: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Kagera Region has collected 57.8bn/- during the first three months of the 2025/26 financial year, exceeding its target of 50.3bn/- and achieving 114 per cent of the goal.

TRA Kagera Regional Manager, Mr Castro John, said the region aims to collect 211bn/- for the 2025/26 fiscal year, with contributions expected from businesses, investors, and customs stations. The three-month performance, covering July to September 2025, reflects strong commitment and efficiency.

“These impressive results demonstrate our collective responsibility in ensuring successful revenue collection through collaboration, patriotism, and accountability. We need the continued support of our stakeholders to meet our annual target,” Mr John said.

He urged Tanzanians to pay taxes promptly to support economic development and enable the government to provide social services in sectors such as health, education, water, and infrastructure development.

Mr John also called on traders to be honest, use Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs), and issue receipts for all goods sold.

He commended taxpayers for their contributions and assured them that TRA will continue providing education on tax compliance, while the government improves the business environment.

He further appealed to traders to use official customs stations when importing and exporting goods and to pay the correct taxes to strengthen the nation’s economy. Owners of private vehicles with foreign number plates were also urged to register their vehicles at customs stations.

Highlighting the impact of tax compliance, Mr John said, “We are now witnessing a rapid pace in implementing large-scale projects that were once considered unfeasible. These projects are made possible through tax revenues. Paying taxes on time enhances economic development and allows the government to provide essential social services.”

He listed the official customs stations in Kagera Region as Kabanga, Rusumo, Murusagamba (Ngara), Mutukula, Kanyigo (Missenyi), and Murongo (Karagwe).
