Tanzania, Oman deepen cooperation in key economic sectors

DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has said that cooperation between Tanzania and Oman has expanded in education, tourism, mining, energy and transportation, boosting economic growth for both nation.

He was speaking during the Oman’s National Day celebrations held on Thursday.

He said economic relations has grown between the two nations, saying that Tanzania’s exports to Oman increased from 4.4 million Us dollars (about 10.8bn/-) in 2017 to 16.5 million US dollars (about 40.5bn/-) in 2024.

He added that by June, this year there were 69 Omaniowned projects worth 380.91 million US dollars (936bn/-), which had created 3,398 jobs.

Ambassador Kombo applauded Oman for its support in historical heritage preservation projects, including the Beit Al Ajab Museum, the House of Wonders, the Maruhubi Ruins and other sites in Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania.

He added Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in line with the National Vision 2050 and Oman Vision 2040 for mutual benefit.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Oman to Tanzania, Saud bin Hilal Al Shidhani, highlighted the importance of the day for Oman, emphasising the principles of unity and diplomatic cooperation.

Al Shidhani said the centuries-old relationship between Oman and Tanzania is evident through language, culture and longstanding ties of brotherhood.

He added that the increase in trade, Omani investment and the eight bilateral visits conducted in 2025 involving leaders, businesspeople, investors and various institutions from both countries are a clear sign of the strong cooperation between the two nations.
