UDSM reviews its curricula  to promote employability   

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Chairperson of the University of Dar es Salaam Council, Ambassador Mwanaidi Sinare Maajar, has said that the University of Dar es Salaam is in the process of reviewing all its curricula to strengthen learning that focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship, to equip graduates with skills for self-employment, employability, and the ability to innovate and effectively address social challenges.

She made the remarks today, November 18, 2025, during the second session of the university’s 55th graduation ceremony, while delivering a speech on behalf of the university leadership before the Chancellor, Former President Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete. The ceremony was attended by various government officials, university leaders, ambassadors, and religious leaders.

Ambassador Mwanaidi further stated that, in ensuring the university remains a leader in education, research, and innovation in the region and across Africa, the Council will continue overseeing the implementation of a major higher education development project through the HEET (Higher Education for Economic Transformation) program. Through this project, the university is constructing major, strategic infrastructure to transform it into a modern institution aligned with current needs.

“The university is in the process of improving its policies and strategies to keep pace with global advancements in science and technology, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies in teaching, learning, and research,” said Ambassador Mwanaidi.

She added that the graduation marks the beginning of a new journey for the graduates one filled with opportunities, responsibilities, and the ability to bring positive change to society and the world at large. She also commended parents and guardians for their support in guiding the graduates to this achievement.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam, Prof. William Anangisye, highlighted some of the achievements in teaching, learning, research, and community service. He said the university has continued with the process of reviewing, validating, approving, and applying for accreditation of various academic programs. More than 250 curricula have been reviewed and are set to be submitted to TCU for approval, with approximately 242 undergraduate and postgraduate curricula already submitted. So far, 49 curricula have received accreditation.
