Samia unveils new cabinet

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced a 27-member cabinet formed after the restructuring of several ministries to enhance efficiency.

Announcing her cabinet at Chamwino State House in Dodoma on Monday, President Samia revealed the establishment of a new docket responsible for Youth Development, placed under the President’s Office. She appointed Joel Nanauka as the Minister.

The creation of the Ministry, according to the President, necessitated the restructuring of the former Prime Minister’s Office — Labour, Employment and Youth Development — which will now be known as the Prime Minister’s Office — Labour, Employment and Relations.

The Head of State appointed Mr Deus Sangu and Ms Rahma Kisuo to lead the docket, which will also be responsible for maintaining mutual relations among various groups.

President Samia also removed the Regional Administration and Local Government docket from the President’s Office and placed it under the Prime Minister’s Office. She appointed Prof Riziki Shemdoe as the Minister, who will be assisted by two deputies; Rueben Kwagilwa (Education) and Dr Japhar Rajab Seif (Health).

Chalinze MP Ridhiwani Kikwete has been named Minister in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, with Ms Regina Qwarai appointed as his deputy.

President Samia also appointed Prof Kitila Mkumbo to lead the Planning and Investment docket as Minister, assisted by Pius Chaya. In the Vice-President’s Office — Union and Environment, President Samia named Engineer Hamad Massauni as Minister and Dr Festo Dugange as deputy.

Veteran politician William Lukuvi has been appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities, with Ms Ummy Nderiananga serving as his deputy.

The Ministry of Finance, previously led by Dr Mwigulu Nchemba— who was appointed Prime Minister—will be headed by Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar. He will be assisted by two deputies; Mr Lawrence Luswetula and Mr Mshamu Ali Munde.

Mr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has been picked as Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. Under him, Dr Ngwaru Jumanne Maghembe and James Ole Milya will serve as deputies.

Also, President Samia has appointed George Simbachawene to become Minister for Home Affairs, with Denis Londo as his deputy. Mr Daniel Chongolo was named Minister for Agriculture with David Silinde serving as his deputy.

Moreover, Dr Samia named Jumaa Aweso as Minister for Water, with Kundo Mathew serving as deputy. President Samia also appointed Rahim Nyansao Minister for Defence and National Service, while Abdallah Ulega has been named Minister for Works and Eng Godfrey Kasekenya will serve as his deputy.

According to the President’s appointments, Prof Makame Mbarawa Mnyaa will lead the Ministry of Transport, assisted by David Kihenzile. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will now be led by Judith Kapinga, with Patrobas Katambi appointed as Deputy Minister.

Ms Angellah Kairuki has been appointed Minister for Communication and Information Technology, assisted by Switbert Mkama. Dr Dorothy Gwajima has been appointed as Minister for Community Development, Gender and Special Groups, deputed by Maryprisca Mahundi. President Samia also appointed Mohamed Mchengerwa as Minister for Health. Dr George Samizi will serve as Deputy Minister.

Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, will be led by Professor Adolf Mkenda deputed by Wanu Hafidh Ameir.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development will be under Dr Leonard Akwilapo, assisted by Kaspar Mmuya. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism will be led by Dr Ashatu Kijaji, with Hamad Hassan Chande as deputy.

President Samia has also appointed Prof Palamagamba Kabudi to lead the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, assisted by two deputies; Khamis Mwijuma and Paul Makonda. Dr Bashiri Kakurwa has been appointed Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, assisted by Ng’wasi Kamani as Deputy Minister.

Mtumba MP Antony Mavunde has been appointed Minister for Minerals, with Dr Steven Kiruswa as deputy. Meanwhile, Chamwino MP Deogratius Ndejembi and Salome Makamba have been appointed to lead the Energy docket as Minister and Deputy Minister respectively.

Dr Juma Homera has been appointed as Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, with Zainab Katimba appointed as Deputy Minister. The appointees will be sworn in today.
