TotalEnergies pushes for safer roads for youth

DAR ES SALAAM: TOTAL Energies Marketing Tanzania Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to promote road safety education among young people in the country, aiming to reduce the impact caused by road accidents.
Speaking during a ceremony to honour the winners of the 2025 VIA Creative Road Safety Programme, held in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, the company’s Managing Director, Mamadou Ngom said the initiative aims to raise road safety awareness among young people and educate them on safer road behaviour through interactive, school-based learning methods.
During the event, the Buguruni Primary Deaf School was announced the overall winner of the 2025 VIA Creative Road Safety Competition.
According to the company, the winning school will represent Tanzania at the regional competition on 26 November, this year with an opportunity to advance to the international stage and compete for a trip to Paris, France.
Mr Ngom reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting safety and empowering young people.

“By investing in education and awareness, we are shaping a safer future for our children and our communities. The number of students reached and engaged through the VIA programme is a strong reflection of our commitment to road safety,” he said.

Since its inception, the VIA programme has reached more than 32,000 students across Dar es Salaam, the Coast Region, Morogoro and Dodoma implementing student-driven safety solutions such as the construction of a protective wall at Makuburi Primary School in 2024.
In addition to the overall winner, the competition which uses art, drama and music to teach safe road practices also recognised Ndalala Secondary School as the second-place winner and Ubungo NHC Primary School in third place.
Buguruni Primary Deaf School also proposed the installation of road signage to alert motorists to the presence of a deaf school in the area, an initiative that TotalEnergies has pledged to implement.
