Tanzanians envision a strong Prime Minister

DODOMA: THE 13th Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, convened tomorrow in Dodoma, is a special session that could witness the appointment of a new Prime Minister to replace Kassim Majaliwa.

Tanzanians are eager to see a figure with strong influence within the ruling party and broad acceptance across political divides to sustain the nation’s development agenda.

This development follows the announcement by outgoing Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa that he will not seek re-election as a Member of Parliament a move that, according to the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, disqualifies him from continuing to hold the premiership.

The swearing in of newly elected Members of Parliament began yesterday, and now all eyes and ears of Tanzanians are on Parliament as the nation awaits the name of Majaliwa’s successor to be announced and approved.

It is anticipated that the appointment of the new Prime Minister will consider experience, integrity, political acumen, and a commitment to strengthening national unity following the election period.

Others have emphasized the importance of boosting the economy and improving the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

As of now, no official announcement has been made regarding the new Prime Minister’s name. However, indications suggest that the nomination and approval process could be completed during today’s or tomorrow’s session.

Once the name is announced, Parliament will deliberate and vote to confirm the appointment a step that will officially mark a new chapter in the leadership of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
