Public servants urged to prioritise health

DODOMA: THE Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Advocate Amon Mpanju, has stressed the importance of safeguarding one’s health to boost productivity and efficiency in public service.
Speaking during a health screening exercise for ministry staff held in Dodoma on Monday, Adv Mpanju said the government continues to strengthen a conducive working environment that enables public servants to deliver quality services to the public.
He noted that regular health check-ups and wellness programmes are part of the public service guidelines which require employers to ensure the wellbeing of their staff for optimal performance.
“If we want to be productive in our workplaces, we must protect our health by eating balanced meals, consuming fruits, drinking plenty of water, and engaging in regular physical exercises. This helps us stay fit and maintain a healthy life even in old age,” he emphasised.
Speaking at the same event, a Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Isack Rugemalila, revealed that there are about 297 known mental health disorders globally, warning that workplace stress and poor lifestyle choices can increase vulnerability.
