Development projects drive Dodoma economy

DODOMA: DODOMA’s economy is booming as state-backed infrastructure projects reshape the capital, turning it into a lucrative investment destination, Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule said.
Growth has been driven primarily by the government’s relocation to Dodoma and a series of flagship projects, including the Msalato International Airport and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
The developments have sparked a construction boom and heightened demand for housing, roads and water services.
“Every day I move around the city, I see new settlements emerging. People are demanding roads and water — a clear sign that Dodoma is expanding at a very fast rate,” Ms Senyamule told a Regional Consultative Committee meeting held recently.

She said the region is benefiting from “high-impact, government-financed projects” designed to raise household incomes and increase production capacity, adding that the gains are expected to strengthen both the local and national economies.
“As a region, we must reflect on how to leverage these huge investments to raise individual incomes and boost the national economy,” she stressed.
Ms Senyamule also directed all local government authorities including Bahi, Chemba, Kondoa Urban, Kondoa, Chamwino, Kongwa and Mpwapwa to come up with strategies that will stimulate business activity and attract new investment.
Senyamule also urged residents to pursue productive ventures as market opportunities expand.
She urged residents to take part in productive ventures that would uplift their livelihoods and contribute to Dodoma’s growing economic footprint.
The RC cited several key enablers behind the growth including tourism potential through cultural heritage sites, abundant sunshine and wind, favourable climate, minerals, water resources, fertile land and the advantage of being the nation’s administrative capital.
She further pointed out that good governance, reliable infrastructure, the presence of universities and research institutions, modern markets and improved road networks continue to make Dodoma an attractive destination for investment.
According to Ms Senyamule, Dodoma is fully prepared to welcome investors and ensure that every project contributes meaningfully to people’s empowerment and the region’s sustainable economic transformation.
