Ministry advices students to report to universities on time

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has called on all university students across the country to report to their respective institutions on time as the 2025/2026 academic year begins, stressing that punctuality and active participation are key to academic excellence.
According to the Ministry’s official academic calendar released over the weekend, first-year students are expected to report for orientation on November 17, 2025, a programme designed to help them familiarise themselves with university systems, rules and learning environments before the official commencement of classes. Continuing students are required to return to their campuses by November 24, 2025 for the start of regular academic activities.
In a statement issued by Permanent Secretary, Professor Carolyne Nombo, emphasised that timely attendance and adherence to academic schedules are vital for effective learning and discipline.
“Students should ensure they report on time, follow the planned timetable and actively participate in all academic programmes. This will not only enhance their learning experience but also contribute to their personal and professional growth,” she said.
Prof Nombo added that universities have been directed to ensure all necessary preparations are completed ahead of students’ arrival, including the readiness of accommodation facilities, lecture halls and orientation materials.

Universities must create a welcoming environment that promotes academic excellence, integrity and innovation,” said Prof Nombo.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to improving the higher education sector through timely academic planning, improved student services and enhanced learning conditions in universities nationwide.
