PCCB launches new anti- corruption initiative

MWANZA: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has launched a new initiative, ‘Takukuru Tuko Site’, aimed at raising public awareness and making it easier for citizens to access the institution in the fight against corruption.

The programme that was officially inaugurated recently in Mwanza city by PCCB Director General, Mr Crispin Chalamila, was attended by transport officers, government leaders and Mwanza residents.

As part of the initiative, transport operators were given special stickers bearing anticorruption messages.

Speaking during the launch, Mr Chalamila said the programme, which involves boda boda and bajaji riders, is designed to ensure that anticorruption messages reach all corners of society.

He explained that the initiative, together with special publications carrying anticorruption information, demonstrates that PCCB is always active and available to serve citizens.

“The materials we have launched are tailored for each region and district where PCCB operates. Although our network of offices is still limited, we aim to ensure every citizen can access our services,” he said.

Mr Chalamila added that transport operators, due to their daily interaction with numerous people, are well-positioned to spread the contact details of PCCB regional and district offices, as well as the emergency corruption hotline, 113.

He encouraged them to report any cases of corruption they witness so that the law can take its course.

He also urged citizens to turn out in large numbers on October 29 to elect leaders who are honest, ethical and free from corrupt practices.

Mwanza Regional Traffic Officer, Mr Sunday Ibrahim, who represented the Regional Police Commander, said the Mwanza Police Force continues to collaborate closely with PCCB and the public to curb corruption.

Nyamagana District Administrative Officer, representing District Commissioner Ms Magreth John, noted that the programme will help residents understand that PCCB offices are accessible to anyone wishing to report corruption. She said involving transport operators such as bajaji and boda boda riders would greatly boost public awareness.
