TEC blesses the General Elections, urging Tanzanians to participate peacefully

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) has blessed the upcoming 2025 General Elections, urging Tanzanians to participate peacefully, in unity, and with clear consciences, while strongly condemning reports of abductions and disappearances within communities.

The statement was issued by Bishop Jude Ruwa’ichi, Chairman of TEC’s Justice and Peace Commission, during the celebration of the Tanzania Catholic Men’s Union Day.

Bishop Ruwa’ichi emphasized that elections are a vital constitutional event, during which citizens exercise their right to entrust leaders with the responsibility of governing the nation. He stressed that elections must be conducted with peace, fairness, and transparency.

“The General Election is a constitutional event because it is the moment when citizens are expected to entrust those they elect with the mandate to govern and lead the nation,” he said.

He added that as Tanzania continues to commemorate the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, it is important to reflect on the country’s history and the foundations of justice, unity, and democracy that he laid, particularly in the context of elections.

“As Tanzania remembers the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, it is good to reflect on the country and its history in relation to General Elections,” he added.

Furthermore, Bishop Ruwa’ichi called on all citizens heading into this election season to be guided by a pure conscience and fear of God, urging them not to be swayed by threats or short-term promises.
