Government calls for collective action, progress

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has emphasised the importance of collective action to effectively navigate the complex global development landscape and accelerate sustainable progress.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Multilateral Affairs Director, Ambassador Noel Kaganda, urged a rethink of financing priorities, noting that while global security spending exceeds 2.7 trillion US dollars annually, a fraction could end hunger and provide basic healthcare for all.
“This is a strategic moment for us to align our efforts with Vision 2050,” he noted.

The government said that yesterday during a high-level dialogue organised by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Tanzania, it and its partners discussed evolving development trends, shifts in financing and the actions needed to align with the country’s Development Vision 2050.
“By adopting a new financing framework focusing on domestic resource mobilisation, public-private partnerships, foreign investment and innovative tools like municipal and green bonds, we can mobilise resources for inclusive, climate-resilient development,” Amb Kaganda said.
National Planning Commission Executive Director Dr Fred Msemwa said that Vision 2050 is putting the private sector at the centre of economic development and the role of government will be that of a facilitator, enabler and derisking.
“As we prepare for the midterm review of the UN Cooperation Framework, today’s insights will help us better align with government priorities and partner strategies,” Dr Msemwa said.

The Gatsby Africa Country Director, Mr Samwel Kilua, urged development partners to avoid working in silos, emphasising the need to build on countries’ competitive advantages and ensure initiatives complement existing projects.
