JKT Queens eye CAF glory after Community Shield title

DAR ES SALAAM: JKT Queens Head Coach, Kessy Juma, says his side has immediately turned its focus to the CAF Women’s Champions League after claiming the Community Shield on Sunday.

He made the comments after his side secured a 2-1 victory over Simba Queens in the Community Shield final at the KMC Complex on Sunday.

Despite lifting the season-opening silverware, Coach Juma remained grounded, stressing that the real task lies ahead as the team eyes continental glory.

“This win is important, of course, but we’ve not stopped to celebrate,” said Juma after the match.

“Our mission is not complete; we are now shifting all our energy to the Champions League. That is our next goal.”

The tightly contested match saw both sides deliver an intense display, but JKT Queens prevailed through tactical discipline and relentless spirit.

“It was a good and tough game. What made the difference for us was our tactical discipline and the fighting spirit shown by the players. This result is a morale boost as we prepare for the big stage. We want to go and compete for the Champions League title not just to participate, but to win it,” Juma explained.

The victory positions JKT Queens as early favourites heading into the new season, but Juma insists the focus must remain sharp.

On the other side, Simba Queens Head Coach, Mohammed Mrishona acknowledged the disappointment but took the result in stride, saying it offers valuable insights ahead of the new campaign.

“No team goes into a match wanting to lose, and we are obviously disappointed,” said Mrishona.

“But this match has given us key lessons. It’s better to learn them now so that we can prepare for a strong start when the season begins.”

He confirmed that the team will return to training with renewed focus.

“We’ve seen what needs to be improved. Now it’s time to go back to the training ground, fix our mistakes and build a stronger side,” he said.

The match served as a curtain raiser to the upcoming season and highlighted the growing competitiveness of women’s football in Tanzania, with both clubs expected to feature prominently in domestic and continental competitions.
