Mwalimu’s vision materialises via Dodoma projects

DODOMA: THE late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere’s dream of transforming Dodoma into Tanzania’s administrative and development capital has now become a reality through a series of flagship projects currently reshaping the region.
This was reaffirmed when a delegation from the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Institute toured several major projects in Dodoma ahead of today’s commemoration marking the 26th anniversary of Mwalimu Nyerere’s passing.
In the early 1970s, Mwalimu Nyerere envisioned Dodoma as the nation’s nerve centre for administration, governance and socio-economic growth.
His successors have continued to actualise that dream through infrastructure development, investment and innovation.
During the visit, the Institute’s delegation inspected key projects, including the Dodoma Outer Ring Road, Msalato International Airport, the Mtumba Government City, Benjamin Mkapa Hospital and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Speaking during the tour, the Institute’s Deputy Chairperson, Mr Peter Mavunde, commended the government for its unwavering commitment to realising Mwalimu’s long-term vision.
“Every year, we commemorate Mwalimu Nyerere’s legacy by honouring his values of peace, unity and self-reliance. These projects are tangible reflections of his foresight,” he said.

Mr Mavunde said the decision to mark this year’s commemoration in Dodoma was deliberate, a reminder that the city embodies Mwalimu’s dream of a strong, united and progressive nation.
He emphasised that successive presidents have all contributed to fulfilling that dream, calling on citizens to defend peace and national unity against divisive political ideologies.
Quoting Nyerere’s timeless message, he urged Tanzanians to reject politics rooted in ethnicity or religion, stressing that development flourishes only in an environment of stability and solidarity.
Mr Mavunde further appealed to youth to use digital platforms responsibly, particularly in promoting patriotism and civic awareness.
The delegation lauded the Dodoma Outer Ring Road and Msalato Airport for enhancing mobility and economic opportunities, while the Mtumba Government City and Benjamin Mkapa Hospital represent efficient governance and improved health access.
“Although Mwalimu passed away 26 years ago, his vision continues to guide Tanzania’s transformation,” Mr Mavunde affirmed.
