Simba, JKT set for Shield final

DAR ES SALAAM: COACHES of the four teams set to compete in today’s Community Shield fixtures at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam have expressed confidence ahead of their respective matches today.

Simba Queens Assistant Coach Mussa Hassan said their final clash against JKT Queens is a key test as they prepare for the new season. He said that the tournament offers a good measure of how well clubs have prepared.

“It’s an important game as we head into the new season. Last year the Shield slipped away from us, so winning it now would give us a big boost. We have worked on lessons from last season and hope the improvements will show in our next match,” he said.

KT Queens Head Coach Kessy Juma acknowledged Simba Queens’ strength but believes his side is well-prepared to challenge them.

“Simba are a strong team with good players, but we’ve studied their style and know where to press. They’re dangerous from set pieces and on the wings, but we have a plan to contain them and use our own strengths to win,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Yanga Princess will face Mashujaa Queens in the thirdplace match. Yanga Assistant Coach Brenda Chaora said her side is focused on improving teamwork after learning from their previous loss.

“In the last match, it came down to individual effort. This time we’ve focused on playing as a team and that’s what will define us,” she said.

Mashujaa Queens Coach Rajabu Bwamkuu said they’ve used the break to improve defensively and will approach the match with a clearer plan.

“We have worked on marking and converting chances. It will be a tough game, but we are ready to get a positive result,” he said.

The two matches mark the conclusion of this year’s Community Shield tournament, which sets the tone for the upcoming women’s football season.
