Religious leaders urged to preserve peace, unity

DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Senyamule has urged religious leaders to stand firm in preserving the country’s peace and unity as the nation heads toward the General Election.
Speaking during a meeting with religious leaders held in Dodoma on Tuesday, RC Senyamule underscored the importance of safeguarding peace that Tanzania has enjoyed since independence, emphasising that it is a legacy that must be protected at all costs.
“We must stand firm to protect the peace of our country. The Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, made great efforts to ensure Tanzania remained peaceful and we should never wish to lose that peace,” she said.
She added that peace derived from faith is lasting and fosters love rather than hatred among people.
“We must be vigilant against anyone attempting to provoke instability,” she stressed.

For his part, Bishop Evance Chande commended the government for the ongoing development efforts across the region and called on citizens to continue promoting peace and unity.
“Peace is everything in a nation. We should guard our words and avoid utterances that may fuel division or tension,” Bishop Chande advised.
The meeting brought together leaders from different religious denominations across the Dodoma Region and covered four main topics including the achievements of the sixthphase government, voter education, the legal recognition of religious institutions and mechanisms for addressing public grievances.
The forum with religious leaders forms part of RC Senyamule’s ongoing consultative meetings with various community groups, aimed at enhancing dialogue and promoting inclusive development across the Dodoma Region.
