National Youth Week celebrations brighten Mbeya Region

DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa, has officially graced the 2025 National Youth Week celebrations, taking place at Uhindini grounds in Mbeya city from today, October 8 to 14, 2025.

The event aims to bring together young people from all regions of the country to exchange experiences and learn about new opportunities in the economic and social sectors.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Mbeya Regional Commissioner’s Office conference hall, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, Ridhiwani Kikwete, said the celebrations will run concurrently with the climax of the Uhuru Torch Relay and the 26th Commemoration of the Nyerere Day to honour the founding Father of the nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who died on October 14th, 1999.

Minister Ridhiwani outlined that various activities will take place during the Youth Week, including exhibitions showcasing products by innovative entrepreneurs, seminars, and community volunteer activities.

Regarding the climax of the Torch Relay Run, after traversing all 31 councils in the country’s regions, the closing ceremony will be held at the Sokoine Memorial Ground in Mbeya city.

As for the 26th anniversary of the National Father, prior to the torch relay’s closing ceremony, a special national mass will be held at the Mwanjelwa Catholic Parish Church in Mbeya.

Additionally, a comprehensive report on the activities undertaken by the Torch Relay Run this year will be presented at the closing event at Sokoine Ground, where the Guest of Honour will be the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan will be the Guest of Honour for all these national celebrations, including the Torch Relay Run climax, the National Father’s Day commemoration, and the National Youth Week.

Minister Ridhiwani encouraged residents of the Mbeya region and surrounding areas to attend the events in large numbers to join in unity and show hospitality to visitors coming to the region.

Some Mbeya residents expressed that hosting these national events is a significant economic opportunity, especially for vendors selling various products, including food and beverages, urging people to prepare well to participate.
