PCCB warns voters against corrupt candidates during elections,

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Head of the Public Education Desk at the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Ilala District, Dar es Salaam, Nerry Mwakyusa, has warned citizens against accepting bribes from candidates during elections, stating that electing leaders through bribery is equivalent to choosing poverty, as national development depends on leaders who are elected legitimately.
Mwakyusa made this statement during an interview with Dailynews Digital in Dar es Salaam, where he emphasized that any leader who secures their position through bribery will not have the intention to serve the people, but will instead focus on their personal interests.
He highlighted the negative impact of corruption during elections, saying that bribery undermines the justice system, as candidates who cannot afford to pay bribes are often denied the chance to be elected.

Furthermore, Mwakyusa stated that bribery leads to the election of unqualified leaders who lack leadership qualities, and can also spark conflicts and civil unrest within communities.
He added that when voters accept bribes, they end up electing the person who paid them off, thereby giving that individual an illegitimate advantage while denying the voters their right and freedom to choose a truly capable leader who could bring about development.
In conclusion, the public educator urged citizens to report any signs of bribery they observe and assured them that their identities will be protected and kept confidential. He noted that there are various ways to report such incidents, including calling, writing letters, or visiting TAKUKURU offices directly.
