CCM echoes peace, unity

DODOMA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has appealed to all Tanzanians to safeguard peace and unity as the country heads toward the General Election later this month.

SPEAKING during a press conference in Dodoma, the CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Kenani Kihongosi, said every citizen has a responsibility to protect the nation’s harmony and to stand as a guardian of peace.

“We all have a duty to protect the unity we enjoy, to defend our nation and to be guardians of peace in our communities. We must continue to show respect to our security and defence institutions by working with them whenever we sense any threats or challenges to our peace,” he said.

Mr Kihongosi said what the CCM presidential candidate, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has valued most throughout the campaign period is the need for decent and respectful politics that uphold the dignity of every Tanzanian.

He further said that since the launch of the party’s campaigns on August 28th this year at Tanganyika Packers grounds in Kawe, Dar es Salaam, Dr Samia has led by example-encouraging supporters to engage in issue-based campaigns free from insults, ridicule, or provocation and to focus on love, unity and the dignity of every Tanzanian.

“Dr Samia has consistently emphasised campaigns free from insults, mockery and humiliation. She drums campaigns that unite rather than divide. She has been urging peace, love, unity and togetherness, which are values our country needs fully,” Mr Kihongosi said.

He said yesterday marked the 39th day since the start of CCM’s campaign rallies. Dr Samia has so far held 77 rallies across 21 regions, attracting over 14.6 million people in attendance and 31 million more following through traditional and social media.

According to him, the large turnouts reflect the trust Tanzanians have in Dr Samia’s leadership, built on four years of tangible achievements across key sectors.

The number of primary schools has risen from 16,656 to 19,783 and the economy has grown from 3.9 to 5.5 per cent, with projections to reach 6 per cent this year.

Mr Kihongosi said that with 24 days remaining before the General Election, Dr Samia is expected to begin her Lake Zone campaign tour tomorrow, covering Mwanza, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Geita, Mara and Kagera regions.

He said the region has experienced major projects under Dr Samia’s leadership, including the Busisi (Magufuli) Bridge, the Butimba water project serving 450,000 residents, the Lake Victoria Water Project and six new ferries that have improved transport and trade.
