Police nab five in Mwanza for destroying candidates’ posters

MWANZA: POLICE in Mwanza have arrested five individuals accused of vandalising campaign posters belonging to Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) candidates for the presidency, parliament and councillor positions.

The posters were reportedly destroyed in various locations across Mwanza City. Authorities are continuing investigations into the incident.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Mr Wilbroad Mutafungwa, told reporters on Friday that the suspects were being interrogated.

Mr Mutafungwa named the five suspects as Mr Charles Chinchibela, a resident of Temeke Street, Mr Marko Christian and Mr Enock Mpaka. He mentioned others as Salumu Libaba and Dioniz Leons, all residents of Mwanza city.

The RPC said the suspects were arrested on September 30, at 8:00 pm, in two different locations while they were coordinating plans to destroy the posters of CCM candidates for parliamentary, councillor and presidential positions.

Police have called on political party leaders, fans, supporters and members to continue respecting the laws, regulations, procedures and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) so that campaigns can continue without problems.
