Fire guts school dormitories in Karagwe

KAGERA: TWO dormitories with a capacity to accommodate 142 students at Aristotle Secondary School in Karagwe District were recently destroyed by fire, resulting in significant property loss.

Headmaster for Aristotle Secondary School, Mr Erineus Chrisostom, explained that the incident happened last Sunday during the morning at around 7.45 a.m. However, there were no casualties.

“The fire broke out around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, completely destroying two dormitories that could accommodate 142 students and resulting in significant property loss. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties, as the students were attending prayers at a nearby church,” he said.

Deputy Regional Manager of the Tanzania Fire and Rescue Force (TFRF), Joseph Ngonyani, said they received the fire alert and responded swiftly, successfully containing the blaze before it could spread to other buildings.

He advised school owners in Kagera Region to ensure that their school buildings undergo regular inspection and update the electrical systems. He also urged them to ensure that they employ registered electrical engineers.
