Over 150 golfers to compete in 2025 golf tourney

ARUSHA: THE Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) has confirmed the 2025 Vodacom Tanzania Open will be held from 2–5 October at Kili Golf Club in Arusha.

More than 150 players from across Africa are expected to compete in the 72-hole tournament, now established as one of the region’s leading golf events.

So far, over 110 players have confirmed attendance, including participants from Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia and hosts Tanzania, according to TGU Chairman Gilman Kasiga.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, Kasiga said preparations were well underway and expressed confidence in a strong turnout.

“We are pleased with the response so far and expect to surpass 150 players before the registration deadline on Friday,” he said.

A prize fund of over 35m/- has been set aside, with 15 cash prizes for amateurs and 22 for professionals who make the cut. The top professional will receive 8.2m/-, while the highest-placed amateur will earn 2.5m/-, in line with international rules that cap amateur prizes under 1,000 US dollars.

Kasiga thanked main sponsor Vodacom Tanzania for its continued support in the tournament’s third year and welcomed new partners HLB Tanzania and Hisense. Co-sponsors include TANAPA, Habari Wife and the MeTL Group.

Joseph Sayi, the Head of Marketing and Enablement at Vodacom Business, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sport development.

“We are proud to support what has become Tanzania’s flagship golf event. It reflects our broader aim of empowering communities through technology and sport,” said Sayi.

He noted that the tournament also aligns with Vodacom’s services such as roaming and provides a platform for business and community interaction.

HLB Tanzania, specialists in audit and advisory services, announced a three-year partnership with the TGU.

“Our involvement supports national sport and community health,” said Steven Mapunda, Consulting Manager at HLB Tanzania.
