Mhagama welcomes Samia’s super specialist doctors to Ruvuma

RUVUMA: MINISTER for Health Jenista Mhagama yesterday officially welcomed a team of 50 “Samia’s Super Specialist Doctors” to Ruvuma Region, marking the latest phase of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s flagship mobile medical outreach programme.
Speaking during the official reception, Mhagama called on the medical team to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics as they deliver critical healthcare services across the region.
“We are proud to receive you here in Ruvuma. Your mission is vital, please carry out your duties with integrity, compassion and professionalism,” she said.
The team of specialists will be deployed across all eight local government authorities in Ruvuma for a five-day period.
Their mission is twofold: To provide free, specialised medical services directly to communities and to enhance the skills of local healthcare workers at the primary level.
Medical services offered during the outreach include obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, general surgery, urology, anesthesia and safe sedation, internal medicine, dental and oral health, as well as ENT (ear, nose and throat) care.
The initiative has received national praise for its success in reaching underserved populations, particularly in remote and rural areas.
“We urge all residents of Ruvuma, from every district and village, to take full advantage of this opportunity. Come out in large numbers for screening, treatment and medical consultations,” Minister Mhagama urged.
All district hospitals in the region will be involved in the outreach.

Each of the seven district councils, Nyasa, Tunduru, Mbinga, Namtumbo, Madaba, Mbinga Mji and Songea District Council, will receive a team of five specialist doctors and one senior nurse.
Songea Municipal Council, being more urbanised, will receive a larger team consisting of eight doctors. Minister Mhagama was accompanied by Ruvuma Regional Administrative Secretary, Ms Mary Makondo, who also emphasised the importance of collaboration between visiting specialists and local medical personnel.
This outreach is part of a broader government initiative under President Samia’s administration to expand access to quality healthcare across Tanzania and to ease the patient burden on regional referral hospitals.
The medical teams are expected to begin operations immediately, with district hospitals and dispensaries already prepared to host the visiting specialists.
