Majaliwa to open 8th Geita mining exhibition

GEITA: PRIME Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, is scheduled to officially open the 8th Mining Technology Exhibition at the Dr Samia grounds in Geita Town today.

This year’s exhibition has drawn significant attention, with over 1,200 participants expected, more than double the 530 attendees recorded in 2024.

Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Geita Regional Commissioner, Martine Shigella said the event had attracted strong participation from both local and international exhibitors, showcasing innovations in social development, business, entertainment and particularly, mining technology.

“The main goal of this exhibition is to showcase innovation and technology in exploration, extraction, processing and value addition in the mining sector,” said Shigella.

He assured the public that Geita Region is fully prepared to ensure peace and security throughout the event, which began on Thursday last week and will run until next Sunday.

Shigella also highlighted Geita’s leadership in gold production under the sixth-phase government, noting that the region produced 50 tonnes of gold over four years.

“Our average annual gold production now ranges between 12 and 15 tonnes, confirming Geita as one of the country’s top gold-producing regions,” he added.

Geita Regional Mining Officer (RMO) Mr Samwel Shoo said the exhibition plays a key role in empowering small-scale miners, offering them a platform to connect with both domestic and international investors.

He noted that a wide range of modern mining and processing technologies are on display, giving miners greater access to technical knowledge and support.

“Thanks to government policy to reduce mercury use, we now have CIP (Carbon in Pulp) processing centres for small-scale miners, which has been a major relief for them,” said Mr Shoo.

The exhibition continues to be a major event for promoting sustainable mining practices, technological advancement and investment opportunities in Tanzania’s mineral-rich Geita Region.
