Mbeya City kick PL campaign on right foot

MBEYA: NEWLY promoted Mbeya City FC kicked off their Mainland Premier League campaign on the right foot after earning their first victory in their return to the top flight league outshining Fountain Gate FC at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium.
Mbeya City’s hero in yesterday evening match was Habib Kyombo who stepped in to convert a spot kick awarded in the 56th minute to give his side the match lead and lone winner away in Manyara region.
The game commenced in slow tempo with both sides making moves to their opponent’s goals in search of an early goal but both defences were tight and not easy to penetrate, which made the two sides go into the breather in deadlock.
In the resumption, the visitors Mbeya City came in rejuvenated and managed to score 11 minutes after the second half kicked off and the goal saw Kyombo and his teammate Vitalis Mayanga and Eliud Ambokile working hard looking to double their side’s lead.
However, they wasted several scoring chances that gave their hosts a relief from more punishment.

They also tried to level the score but the Mbeya City defence and experienced shot stopper Beno Kakolanya denied them the chance.
After their winning start, Mbeya City’s next hurdle will be Azam FC on September 24 at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, while Fountain Gate will battle it with Simba SC at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam on September 25.
Meanwhile in another Premier League match held on Wednesday evening Coastal Union emerged with a 1-0 win over Tanzania Prisons at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, whereby the hosts’ winner was scored by Cleoface Mkandala in the 35th minute.
Tomorrow there will be one match between Tabora United and Dodoma Jiji at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora.
