NIT, Aerotechnics partner to strengthen aviation sector

DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Institute of Transport (NIT) has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aerotechnics Tanzania to enhance capacity building in the aviation sector locally and across Africa.
The partnership aims to modernise training programmes, boost institutional capacity and provide students with access to both local and international aviation markets.
Aerotechnics Limited Chairman Jared Ajwang’a said the initiative focuses on creating a future-ready aviation ecosystem that empowers students and positions Tanzania as a hub for aviation, drone technology and aerospace innovation.
“Our goal is to ensure graduates meet international standards by enhancing skills and fostering innovation for a sustainable aviation sector,” he noted.
The collaboration will give students access to globally aligned training programmes, a modernised curriculum, hands-on experience and placement opportunities with airlines and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
It will also enable NIT to be recognised as part of the globally accredited Part-147 training institutions. NIT Rector Dr Prosper Mgaya emphasised that the partnership promotes knowledge exchange and supports efforts to improve the sector.
“Partnerships like this are essential to advance the aviation industry and ensure it meets international standards,” he said.

Graduate Nathanael Daniel praised the initiative, saying it helped him secure practical training in Kenya, which will enhance his skills and contribute to Tanzania’s aviation growth.
Despite steady sector growth, inclusive learning opportunities remain limited. Prof Ian McAndrew of the International Space University and Aerotechnics board member highlighted the need for forward-looking education to stay competitive globally.
He stressed the importance of diverse learning pathways, including non-university programmes and international dual-degree partnerships.
