Govt hails entrepreneurs global skills training
DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has lauded the strategic initiative of sending Tanzanian entrepreneurs abroad to acquire advanced business strategies and international skills, recognising it as a critical step towards enhancing local enterprise competitiveness and fostering sustainable economic growth in the global marketplace.
Speaking to entrepreneurs on Thursday at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr Selamani Jafo said the programme aims to broaden participants’ mindsets and business outlook, enabling them to achieve greater success than before.
Dr Jafo insisted that the trip is a crucial step in broadening the outlook of entrepreneurs and equipping them with skills aligned with global competitiveness.
“Learning from a commercially successful nation like China will enable Tanzanian entrepreneurs to acquire knowledge and a broader understanding of modern business,” said Dr Jafo.

He added that through such programmes, the government encourages entrepreneurs to adopt professional business practices and embrace new technologies, particularly in sectors like furniture manufacturing, where improving product quality and finishing is essential to compete with imported good.
“These efforts are part of the government’s strategy to ensure Tanzanian businesses grow and contribute to sustainable economic development,” he said.
Dr Jafo also assured that the government will continue supporting initiatives that send more entrepreneurs abroad for training, with the goal of empowering them to become ambassadors of economic transformation and national development.
One of the beneficiaries of the trip, entrepreneur Mr Bakari Nzagamba, said they gained extensive knowledge and skills through the business training they received.
He mentioned they had the opportunity to visit various locations in China and witnessed how business is conducted successfully.
“China’s progress is driven by the determination of its people, and since we (Tanzanian entrepreneurs) are also hardworking and goal-oriented, we too can achieve significant success and contribute to national development,” said Mr Nzagamba.
He pointed out that while agriculture and environmental sectors are progressing well in Tanzania, the business sector holds even greater potential for growth through the modern methods they have learned.
Ms Happiness Nyalugenzi, another participant, shared that they received training on market expansion, financial empowerment and building strong business networks. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, calling for continued support to help entrepreneurs contribute to the country’s development.
