Telecom boosts Mbeya farmers’ financial inclusion

MBEYA: MIXX has pledged to expand equal access to digital financial services to farmers in Mbeya, an initiative aimed at bridging the rural-urban finance gap, enhancing agricultural productivity and driving inclusive economic growth through technology.

The Regional Director for YAS in the Southern Highlands, Abbas Abdurahamani, said during the launch of ‘Every Step by Mixx’ campaign that the initiative is aimed to boost financial inclusion and accelerate the digital economy across Tanzania’s Southern Highlands.

“This region is Tanzania’s growth engine, linking farmers, businesses and regional markets. The launch of this campaign underscores our commitment to innovation and tailored financial solutions that address local challenges,” he said.

Mixx plays a key role in boosting agriculture by offering digital tools, market access and mobile payments that enhance productivity and financial inclusion for farmers.

He added: “We remain committed to collaborating with partners to accelerate digital transformation and foster inclusive economic growth.” Mr Abdurahamani noted that the region is a vital economic engine, serving as Tanzania’s breadbasket, a strategic trade gateway to Southern Africa and a growing hub for agriculture, transport and entrepreneurship.

Mixx’s Director of Business, James Sumari, highlighted the Southern Highlands’ strong entrepreneurial spirit, noting it as a key driver of regional innovation and a strategic foundation for scaling digital financial solutions tailored to local market needs.
