Tanzanians mourn the sudden demise of Archbishop Rugambwa  

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Archbishop, Novatus Rugambwa, who previously served as the Ambassador of the Pope to various countries, has passed away on the night of September 16, 2025, in Rome, Italy, while receiving medical treatment.

The 67-year-old man who was born in Kagera Region, has been residing in Italy since his retirement.

He was ordained as a priest on July 6, 1986, by Bishop Nestorius Timanywa, then Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bukoba.

On March 18, 2010, he was consecrated as a bishop by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, then Secretary of State of the Vatican.

During his service, he served as the Pope’s Ambassador to several countries, including Angola, Honduras, and the Fiji Islands.
