Russia’s golden scholarship offer beckons Tanzanian students

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN students have been asked to grab the golden scholarship opportunity offered by the Russian government, whose application starts from today, September 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026.
The call was made by the Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, Alexander Evstigneev, in Dar es Salaam on Monday, noting that the scholarship covers 100 percent of school fees, whether the program lasts four years, three years, or depends on the course.
However, he noted that it does not cover transport, living expenses, or accommodation.
Additionally, the Director said the scholarships are offered to students who have completed Form Six with Division One or Two passes, as well as those who have completed Form Four and pursued a diploma, and attained at least a GPA of 3.5 where they can apply to study in Russia for a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD, depending on the level they have already completed.
He noted that the application is done online through the website, http://education-in-russia.com where those applying will have to attach their passport as well as secondary school certificates (Form Four and Form Six), or degree and transcripts.
However, Mr Evstigneev said that students who will be admitted in the universities will be allowed to have jobs that will ease their living in Russia and provide for their various needs.
Elaborating, he noted that the country is full of opportunities where no students will be stranded and fail to be independent, adding that by working only 1–2 hours a day (about 5 hours a week), a student can earn between 1,000,000 and 1,200,000 per month.

“Job opportunities are almost everywhere in Russia. Students can get jobs in their universities, in their student societies where they usually post some invitations, they can apply as free marketing officers from various adverts advertised in newspapers, television, and so on,” he said.
Emphasizing, he said that universities provide stipends to students, ranging from 150 to 200 US Dollars per month (about 500,000/-), which can cover annual accommodation fees, with the remainder sufficient for food and personal expenses.
Moreover, he assured a safe, stable, and friendly environment in Russia, noting that there is no segregation and the students will feel comfortable throughout their stay in Russia. “We will support the students and assist them in anything that they may need,” he said.
He also noted that last year they gave room for 90 students from Tanzania, but this year they increased the number to 150 due to Tanzanian students being disciplined, responsible, and good.
Speaking on areas of arts and talents, the Director said that students who wish to groom their talents while studying their various courses will not be hindered from doing so.
However, the Director noted that students who graduate and wish to work in Russia are free to do so, but the Russian government encourages them to come back and work in their native countries and contribute to the development of their country.
On his part, Project Manager at the Russian Cultural Centre, Boniface Assenga, urged students to send their application within the time frame while insisting on sending it as soon as possible without waiting for the deadline.
Commenting on life in Russia, Mr Assenga told the students not to be worried about how they will live, saying that job opportunities are almost everywhere, and those who are hardworking will be able to support their families back in Tanzania from what they will be earning.
“Two weeks ago, I was in Russia, Moscow, and I met different Tanzanian students who are studying in Russia, and they are all working; they are very busy. They leave from school and go to work, etc, and when I was at the airport, some people approached me after hearing me speaking Russian and wanted to offer me a job…imagine, this is just at the airport. So, it is very easy to get a job in Russia. There are student association groups where they post job opportunities through their WhatsApp groups. So you won’t be alone,” he stressed.
