Azam FC restructures power play

DAR ES SALAAM: Azam Football Club has unveiled a major leadership shake-up, transforming the role of Club Chairman into that of Club President that is a structural and symbolic upgrade at the top of the hierarchy. As part of the changes, Nasser Idrissa, famously known as Father, will now carry the title President of the Club.

According to a statement released Tuesday night, the revamped presidency will be flanked by two Vice Presidents. Abdulkarim Nurdin (Popat) will serve as Vice President for the senior team, while Omary Kuwe takes on the role of Vice President for the club’s academy.

In another strategic move, Popat has also been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a position expected to be filled permanently later.

Additionally, the board has elevated Finance Director Abdulkarim Shermohamed (Karim Mapesa) to the Board of Directors.

These organizational changes, the club confirmed, take immediate effect—suggesting a new era of streamlined governance and ambition at Chamazi.
