Police claim success in road safety campaign

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone has seized 15 vehicles operating without official registration numbers in the first week of a special road safety operation.
The 15 cars were seized in an operation that began from August 18 to 25, 2025, according to the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Jumanne Muliro, who said the operation is ongoing.
“These vehicles were using fake registration numbers, specifically SSH 2530, which is a violation of Section 13(1) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 168 of 1973, as amended in 2023. Operating a motor vehicle without official registration is a serious offense that endangers the safety of other road users,” he said.

In another effort to ensure public safety and combat illegal trade, Commander Muliro reported that on August 11, 2025, a man named Ramadhani Makala, a resident of Tabata, was arrested on suspicion of transporting bags of rice mixed with marijuana.
“The suspect was arrested using a Fuso truck with registration number T.733 AGT. He was found with 13 sacks of marijuana weighing approximately 239 kilograms, hidden among sacks of rice transported from Morogoro to Dar es Salaam in an attempt to deceive law enforcement,” he said.
