Goat races target to raise 400m/- for 150 students

DAR ES SALAAM: A total of 400m/-is expected to be raised in this year’s Goat Races as its preparation has begun ahead of its flag off in Dar es Salaam on September 20 this year.

It is a charity event seeking to raise funds for 150 students who cannot afford to foot their education expenses.

The goat race will be held at the Green Oysterbay grounds in Dar es Salaam, and it is being organized by the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, with Vodacom Tanzania joining as the main sponsor and more than 20 other co-sponsors.

Speaking to the media today, September 3, 2025, the Race Coordinator, Paul Muhato, said the race will have 80 goats, with 10 goats in each race.

“Over 20 sponsors join us in support of The Goat Races 2025. In support of efforts that accelerate access to education in the country, Vodacom Tanzania PLC, our title sponsor, together with over 20 other sponsors have partnered with the Rotary Club of DSM Oyster Bay who are the organizers of the Goat Races.

He added “You buy a goat, it participates in the competition, and if your goat wins, you get a prize and a ticket for Very Important Person (VIP) starts at 250,000/-, there are 220,000/- and 200,000/- for adults, here they will get food and drinks, and for children, VIP is 30,000/- and The regular ticket is Sh30,000/- for an adult and 10,000/- for children.

He said they have planned to ensure that this year’s race will be an example of the power of cooperation in facilitating education in the country, so participants should prepare to get the best.

“We are delighted to have Vodacom as our sponsor for the third time and are grateful for the continued trust of our sponsors, many of whom have committed themselves once again. In this year’s preparations, we will collaborate with members, friends, and family of the club, food and beverage vendors, and the local government.

Head of Media Relations from Vodacom, Annette Kanora, said they have focused on various innovations to support communities in developmental and social activities across the country, and in this race, they support 50m/-.

“After seeing the success of the previous races in 2023 and 2024, the company is keen to continue sponsoring again this year, where they have already improved school infrastructure and provided scholarships to more than 130 underprivileged students for higher education and technical colleges.

She said they expect more success, including improvement of the environment in various schools and water and sanitation services (WASH).

“This year’s theme, ‘Wild Wild Dar’, aims to do more of what Rotary is known for – bringing people together and serving the community by providing a wide range of entertainment for the whole family. Once again, we’re aiming for a fun-filled day in support of a good cause, and we call on the community to join us.

She added, “We are asking other institutions to join us in this year’s goat race to increase the positive impact on the community.
