NLD zeroes in on corruption war as it unveils date of its campaign’s kick-off

DAR ES SALAAM: THE presidential candidate from the National League for Democracy (NLD), Doyo Hassan Doyo, has declared that if elected President of Tanzania, he will implement a unique and unconventional approach in the fight against corruption. Doyo emphasized that the war on corruption will not be fought with words but through concrete and visible actions.

He stated that all individuals found guilty of engaging in corrupt practices will be subjected to corporal punishment, receiving 12 lashes on their way to prison and another 12 lashes upon release. According to Doyo, these punishments will be broadcast live on the national television channel (TBC) and carried out at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, to allow the public to witness the government’s open and firm stance against corruption.

In addition, the NLD has announced that it will officially launch its general election campaign on September 4, 2025, at the Komesha Grounds in Pangani, Tanga Region. The event will serve as an opportunity for the party to present its manifesto to the public and solicit votes for candidates contesting various leadership positions.

Party leaders have stated that a major focus of the campaign will be the issue of unemployment, which they have identified as a major challenge facing many Tanzanians, especially the youth. The NLD has promised to present comprehensive strategies to address this issue if entrusted with leadership through the ballot box.
