Don Bosco gets boost in youth basketball development

DAR ES SALAAM: VODACOM Tanzania has stepped onto the basketball court with a game-changing initiative aimed at empowering young athletes and nurturing grassroots talent, following a landmark partnership with Don Bosco.
The collaboration, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), makes communication company the official sponsor of Don Bosco and the Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL).
The move signals the telcos’ commitment to growing investment in sports as a platform for youth empowerment and community development.
Speaking at the launch event over the weekend, Vodacom’s Director of External Affairs, Zuweina Farah emphasised that the initiative goes beyond the game itself.
“By providing scholarships and improving sports facilities, we aim to create opportunities that inspire and empower the youth,” she said, underscoring the company’s commitment to both education and sports.
As part of the deal, Vodacom also rehabilitated a local basketball court, giving young athletes a safe and modern space to train and compete.

“This partnership will inspire our young athletes and students to strive for excellence,” he said.
Meanwhile, BDL President Shendu Mwagalla hailed Vodacom’s backing as a major boost for the league, saying it would elevate competition, develop players and expand the sport’s reach across the region.
