UNFPA, TFF in joint bid to solve social challenges

THE United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) and Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) have signed a five-year contract worth billions that aims to solve social challenges facing the community including the youth with sports talents.

The signed deal also aims to fight HIV/AIDS to the talented youth and enable them reach their goals easily.

Through the mass campaign, the partnership also builds awareness to the community so as to prevent maternal deaths for women during deliveries, providing essential contraceptive needs for family planning and oppressive traditions for children, women, including child pregnancies and early marriages.

The signing of the contract was held at Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam, and involved various stakeholders of sports, arts and culture.

During the occasion, the TFF President Wallace Karia noted the federation is delighted to sign the contract and they will create awareness to the society on the challenges that face youth in the society.

In solving the challenge facing the community, he stressed that TFF has collaborated with UNFPA to promote positive social change and youth empowerment in Tanzania as they will use various sportsmen and women who will use adverts in creating awareness to the society through NBC premier league, Championship, Women Premier League, Azam Sports Federation Cup and the Community Shield.

“It is a great honour for TFF to sign the contract with UNFPA; therefore, we will work cooperatively in serving the society as well as developing football in the country, “he noted

Adding, Karia said due to this year’s census results showing that 60 percent of Tanzanians are youth; this has shown a need for them to cooperate with various development partners including UNFPA by protecting young ones from various hazards such as HIV/AIDS so as to fulfill their dreams.

On his part the UNFPA Representative in Tanzania, Mark Bryan Schreiner said they are delighted to partner with TFF as it is for the first time they are working together and they believe that the football federation body will quickly serve the community on various football competitions.

Scheirner said as football has been a Tanzanian icon at global level, through their partnership they will jointly work together by organising seminars that will continue to build awareness to the society that will promote football worldwide.

In addition, he stressed that they will also cooperate in work jointly in serving the community by raising charity fund for the social causes connected to sexual reproductive and maternal health as well as preparing various events including the International Youth Day.
